YEAR 4 · AGES 8–9
Year 4 Maths Worksheets & Practice
Year 4 brings times-table recall into focus, alongside a wider range of maths. Start with understanding, mix familiar facts with new ones and introduce timed practice only when your child is ready.
Build recall. Grow confidence.
Number & place value
Explore four-digit numbers and rounding. Use number lines for counting through zero into negative numbers.
Addition & subtraction
Practise calculations with up to four digits. Encourage an estimate and an inverse check, not just a written answer.
Multiplication & division
Develop recall up to 12 × 12 and connect multiplication to division. Use facts to support larger calculations.
Fractions & decimals
Connect equivalent fractions with diagrams. Explore hundredths and common fraction–decimal relationships.
Measurement
Find the area of shapes by counting squares. Practise conversions and solve problems involving money and time.
Geometry & statistics
Compare angles, use coordinates in the first quadrant and interpret charts, including simple time graphs.
A small idea to try today
Pick one fact that feels tricky. Draw it, say it and connect it to a fact your child already knows. Revisit it tomorrow before adding more.
A parent-friendly overview, not a complete curriculum checklist. Schools may sequence learning differently. Based on the mathematics programmes of study for England; checked August 2026.
