YEAR 5 · AGES 9–10
Year 5 Maths Worksheets & Practice
Year 5 asks children to connect ideas across topics. A secure times-table foundation helps with fractions and larger calculations, but reasoning deserves just as much attention.
Use what you know, try something new
Number & place value
Compare numbers to a million and explore decimals to three places. Explain the value of a digit when it moves position.
Addition & subtraction
Use larger numbers in problems with more than one step. Decide which operations are needed before calculating.
Multiplication & division
Explore factors, multiples, primes and square numbers. Connect these ideas to written multiplication and division.
Fractions, decimals & percentages
Compare and combine fractions, including mixed numbers. Make connections between tenths, hundredths and percentages.
Measurement
Work with unit conversions, area and volume. Explain why measuring the surface and the space inside are different tasks.
Geometry & statistics
Measure angles with a protractor. Read timetables and line graphs, checking the scale carefully.
A small idea to try today
Choose a number such as 24. Find factor pairs together, sketch their arrays and explain how you know you have found them all.
A parent-friendly overview, not a complete curriculum checklist. Schools may sequence learning differently. Based on the mathematics programmes of study for England; checked August 2026.
About our Year 5 packs
A full Year 5 pack is not available yet. Use these ideas now, or explore our first times tables pack if multiplication recall is the right next step. It does not cover the whole Year 5 curriculum.
